Juniors at the Surrey Championships 2010

This years Surrey Championships were held over the East Course at Wentworth on Friday 9th April. The championships are open to any Surrey player with a handicap of 9 or less and any Surrey Junior with a handicap of 14 or less. Overall there were 69 entries, including 10 juniors.
All competitors play 36 holes of medal, with the top 16 gross scores qualifying for the matchplay stages on Saturday and Sunday. Two juniors, Charlotte Griffith from Walton Heath and Inci Mehmet who has recently joined Wentworth both qualified.
Charlotte played Nicola Taylor, last years Junior Champion in the first round and just lost out losing 1down. For Inci, she played Jenny Justice from Walton Heath and managed a very impressive 5 & 4 victory. In the 2nd round, or quarterfinals Inci played Lauren Blease, the eventual Surrey Champion, Unfortunately Lauren proved too strong for Inci and she lost 6&5. Nevertheless it was a great performance by both Charlotte and Inci, so congratulations to them both.
Although only two juniors qualified, many of the 10 juniors who entered performed very well. Lizzie Prior from Foxhills won the 2nd prize in the aggregate handicap with a nett 149, whilst Rachel Williams from Walton Heath won the best afternoon handicap prize with a nett 68. inci Mehmet won the Laura Davies Junior Trophy for the best Junior score, with Charlotte Griffith as runner up.
